Rx For Success Begins With Serious Self-Reflection
Prospective employers are looking to hire people with the right skills as well as the self-discipline and stamina to go the distance. To be this type of a prospective job candidate we may need to do a bit of preparation and self-reflection. This preparation and self-reflection is the action required to improve from the inside out!
Most prospective employees show up for the job interview expressing their passion about the company and the job. That’s great, but passion does not guarantee commitment. Generally, but especially in highly competitive job markets, employers are more likely to hire candidates with a professional track record of action and accomplishments. It is to our advantage to prepare to demonstrate actions and accomplishments before we get to the interview.
What about the self-reflection? Why bother? The truth is that when we are holding on to deeply personal issues such as anger, jealousy, and guilt, we can be sure they will come out in the workplace (as in our personal life) in one form or another.
Of course no one is perfect. Still, if we are trying to change careers because we had difficulty getting along with other colleagues, we might need to make some changes. In short, if the problem is us changing jobs won’t fix it! Therefore, it’s important to take a good long look in the mirror. If something isn’t quite right, it may be time to “take out the trash”. Today is the right day to begin breaking any chains of bondage that are keeping us from becoming everything we are meant to be.
Shape up! Find some way to deal with the “trash”. We all have experiences and difficult challenges that have had a negative residual impact on our life - this is just part of living. Still we must not be afraid of self-reflection. We should aggressively pursue serious self-reflection so we don't continue making the same mistakes or living the same old pain.
In order to mature and find inner peace, it’s important to begin making the smallest improvements immediately.
We must discipline ourselves to stretch until we become fit mentally, physically, and emotionally as athlete would stretch his muscles before a strenuous activity.
It may take some time before significant improvement is noticed because some of the issues are deep within us. Still, it’s important to start making even the smallest changes immediately.
Stretch until you become fit and healthy mentally, physically, and emotionally just as athlete would stretch his muscles before a strenuous activity.

After we take out the trash it’s time to face our fears! Growing up as an only child with few other children in the neighborhood to play with I would often cry, “Daddy, I am so lonely; there’s nobody to play with.” He always responded with the same statement, “Well, go outside and play by yourself. Just pretend you are having fun.” This statement never solved my problem but it taught me that pretending can serve as a substitute until the real thing is available.
When we feel nervous or fearful about going to a job interview or changing careers, we can still move forward in spite of the fear. Just pretend to be confident until the interview is over if necessary! You CAN do it!
